The Preconception and Pregnancy in IBD clinic at The University of Alberta is currently on CLOSED to referrals as Dr. Vivian Huang has closed her medical practice in Edmonton, AB after September 29, 2017 and relocated to Ontario starting October 1, 2017. She will longer be accepting new referrals for the Edmonton clinic.
However, various IBD trained gastroenterologists in Edmonton continue to care for women with IBD, and manage their IBD during pregnancy. Dr. Huang suggests referral to one of the gastroenterologists in Edmonton at the following hospitals (all of which have obstetrics/gynecology support) – Royal Alexandra Hospital, Misericordia Hospital, Grey Nun’s Hospital, or Sturgeon.
Referrals the gastroenterologists at The University of Alberta Hospital IBD clinic can also be made, and they will also help manage IBD during pregnancy, however there are no obstetrics/gynecology on site at UAH.
Dr Huang recommends the following guideline as a resource for managing IBD and the IBD medications in the pregnancy and peripartum time period.
