Ensuring the IBD is well controlled during pregnancy is important because active IBD is associated with worse maternal and neonatal outcomes in IBD. In addition, in our prospective clinic survey study, we found that active IBD is associated with worse quality of life during pregnancy and up to 12 months post partum. In particular, patients with ulcerative colitis may suffer worse postpartum quality of life compared to patients with Crohn’s disease.
